National Adult Salmon Sampling Project
The Esk District Salmon Fishery Board and Marine Scotland
Science in Montrose are engaged in a project with certain beats to sample
salmon caught by anglers on the North and South Esks.
As part of the sampling, a small number of fish will be
anaesthetised to allow more detailed sampling. Fish that have been
anaesthetised must not be eaten due to the toxic nature of the anaesthetic, and
these fish will be marked using floy tags (see attached photo), a small strip
of plastic injected into the back of the salmon near the dorsal fin.
Please note any floy-tagged
fish are NOT to be consumed if they have to be killed.
Changes to fishings
association have entered into an agreement with the MacPhie's at Glenbervie
House to suspend fishing from the Knockhill bridge down steam on both banks for
about 3/4 of a mile, fishing will resume about half a mile above the railway
viaduct at Mondynes.
New signs are being made to mark all the association's boundaries (see below), just follow
the direction of the finger on the sign
Should any members have any query about the new restriction please contact the

Season 2020 recap
last few weeks of the season produced some good fish for those
willing to put in the fishing hours. Ian Strachan has certainly done
that and his efforts have been well rewarded. His returns for the
season are 3 Grilse and 6 Seatrout from the Luther and 10
Salmon and Grilse plus 2 Seatrout from the Bervie biggest Salmon was
Ian with a cracking fish off the Bervie
Not to be outdone Graham Strachan was also picking up a few fish when he had the chance to get out.
Graham with one of his fish.
New nember, David Paul had a crackin broonie from the Bervie at Mill of
Garvock. Estimated at 1-1/2lbs it took a Tasmanian Devil lure. The fish
was safely returned to the water.
of our new members Craig McLaren caught his first salmon yesterday 26/9
on the Bervie at Mill of Garvock. The fish took a Tasmanian Devil lure
and weighed approx 5lbs Craig went to extreme measures to land the
fish having to jump in to the river to play it (well he fell in
actually) The fish was safely released after all the excitement.
See pics below.
