Catch and release Guidance

The club have recently received the following request from Savils who act for the Crown Estate and issue our leases.

If you are a club or Association, please arrange for this link to be made available to all of your club members and ask everyone to adhere to the good practice demonstrated in the video. Similarly, if you let fishing or if your guests and friends are fishing please make sure they too follow this best practice.
For everyone who has an interest in the North Atlantic salmon this should be standard practice.

Catch and release best practice

I'm sure all our members already follow the above best practice.

National Adult Salmon Sampling Project

The Esk District Salmon Fishery Board and Marine Scotland Science in Montrose are engaged in a project with certain beats to sample salmon caught by anglers on the North and South Esks.
As part of the sampling, a small number of fish will be anaesthetised to allow more detailed sampling.  Fish that have been anaesthetised must not be eaten due to the toxic nature of the anaesthetic, and these fish will be marked using floy tags (see attached photo), a small strip of plastic injected into the back of the salmon near the dorsal fin.
Please note any floy-tagged fish are NOT to be consumed if they have to be killed.
